Riiid’s ‘REAL ACADEMY’ sees 470% increase in paid users just one month after launch

AI edtech startup Riiid announced that the number of monthly paid users (MPU) of its AI elementary English service ‘REAL ACADEMY,’ launched last September, increased by 470% just one month after its official launch.
As the 2028 college entrance exam system is being reorganized around essay- and descriptive-type assessments, the importance of English “output” — namely speaking and writing — is growing. Against this backdrop, REAL ACADEMY has recently been drawing significant attention from parents of elementary school students as an output-focused learning service specialized in strengthening English speaking and writing skills.
REAL ACADEMY’s key differentiator lies in its “One Output a Day” learning solution, in which students write one short passage or essay each day with the help of the AI tutor “LIA.” By conversing with LIA, students freely express their thoughts and naturally internalize English through a step-by-step learning process that helps them learn and transform those thoughts into English.
During the learning process, LIA goes beyond simple interaction to provide a sophisticated personalized learning environment. It delivers real-time feedback tailored to each learner’s level and immediately corrects errors when they occur. A notable feature is that it maximizes learning effectiveness by presenting detailed analyses of why answers are incorrect along with suggested revisions. In addition, its strength lies in recording and analyzing learners’ language usage patterns to provide customized feedback.
In addition, REAL ACADEMY offers live classes with native English instructors. Students learn everyday English expressions from animations and review them through games with peers, improving children’s concentration and sense of achievement. REAL ACADEMY also provides a variety of self-directed learning programs designed to spark students’ interest.
Lee Mihyung, Product Owner (PO) at Riiid, said, “In line with rapidly changing admissions trends, we launched ‘REAL ACADEMY,’ an English learning service for elementary school students focused on English output,” adding, “By combining our proprietary AI technology with proven learning content, we expect to provide an environment where children can freely express their thoughts and experience both the fun and effectiveness of learning as they put those thoughts into English.”
