Riiid Changes Company Name to ‘Socra AI’

Riiid is changing its company name to ‘Socra AI’ to lead a new educational paradigm in the AI era.
The new name reflects the company’s commitment to creating “AI that helps people grow” by overcoming the limitations of existing AI that only provides immediate answers and, like the Socratic method, helping learners find answers on their own through questions and dialogue.
Socra AI is both Riiid’s new company name and the name of its core product. The company plans to launch the open beta service for its educational GPT, Socra AI, this coming December. Unlike general-purpose GPTs, it is an educationally aligned GPT designed to function as a learning partner that encourages learners to think for themselves rather than simply presenting correct answers.
Park Soo-young, CEO of Socra AI, said, “A world is coming where anyone can have an AI personal tutor and realize their potential,” adding, “In an era that calls not just for smarter AI but for AI that helps people grow, we will usher in a time when every learner has their own ‘AI Socrates.’”
Founded in 2014, Socra AI previously received approximately KRW 200 billion in investment from Vision Fund, the flagship investment fund of SoftBank Group led by Chairman Masayoshi Son. The company offers English learning services such as TOEIC and TOEFL under the ‘Santa’ brand.
Since merging in 2024 with Qualson, an edtech company that provides language education services such as ‘Real Class,’ the company has been led by CEO Park Soo-young. Ahead of the full TOEFL revision in January 2026, it has continued to strengthen its existing services, including launching the ‘Santa TOEFL’ website last July, and plans to deliver even more innovative learning experiences based on the AI capabilities it has built up so far.
